Liberal Party Senatorial candidate ‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta condemns the murder of fellow educator Romeo Aguirre Duran—a 52 year-old schoolteacher who was shot in front of his Grade VI pupils in Argao, Cebu.
“This is clearly a human rights violation that reminds us that there are dangers everywhere—even more disturbingly, there are dangers for teachers in classrooms and in front of their students.”
Acosta says that murders like this, death threats to teachers and the kidnapping of teachers in Zambodanga are not only a call for justice but they make it even more imperative to guarantee teachers their basic benefits, including sick leave, GSIS and other forms of medical and life insurance.
“Kailangang alagaan natin ang mga teacher. We need to nurture our teachers because in turn, they nurture our future—the youth.”
