‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta on why Arroyo doesn't threaten Villar

E-mail Print PDF
February 15, 2010

Reacting to Sen. Manny Villar’s recent statement that he would not feel threatened if President Arroyo becomes Speaker of the House, Liberal Party Senatorial candidate ‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta says that this further proves that Villar is, indeed, an administration candidate.

“Hindi takot si Villar. Ito ay dahil malakas ang loob niya na aalagaan siya ni Gng. Arroyo kung sakaling maging Speaker of the House ito.”

‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta adds that “we have seen that even the COMELEC, acting as a pawn of the Arroyo administration, has been favoring Villar not only by harassing Liberal Party officials—including Grace Padaca, Among Ed Panlilio and Jonjon Mendoza—but by also configuring the ballots to work in his favor.”

The COMELEC has allowed the candidacy of Vetallano Acosta, who has not made any effort to campaign and has been dropped by his own running mate, even if he is clearly a nuisance candidate.

“This has been done to prevent Noynoy Aquino from being the first name under the Presidential list. We also have reason to suspect that Villar had a hand in the format of the ballots since his name receives its own column.”

‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta reminds the Comelec that it is a non-partisan and neutral entity that must disregard the biases of the current administration in order to prioritize free and fair elections. He calls on the Filipino people to make informed decisions for the upcoming elections and to serve as watchdogs for democracy.

‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta: Villar’s no-show is an arrogance of power

Liberal Party Senatorial candidate condemns the boycott of Wednesday’s Senate session by Senator Manny Villar and his allies.

“The Senate, as the highest policy-making body is not the venue to evade truth-seeking and truth-telling. Villar’s no-show in the final days of sessions for the 14th Congress reflects a disrespect not only for his colleagues, but an arrogance of power and a flagrant disregard for basic democratic process,” ‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta says.

“Anyone aspiring for public office, let alone the presidency, should be held fully accountable for any hint of a betrayal of the public trust. He must be an example first and foremost of responsible citizenship and ethical leadership.”

Teacher Neric Acosta to COMELEC: Don't scare, prepare

Teachers should not be scapegoats.

Liberal Party Senatorial candidate, ‘Teacher’ Neric ACOSTA joins the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) in calling on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to provide on-site training in the use of automated counting machines to teachers serving in the upcoming presidential elections.

“The COMELEC has been scaring us with threats of cell phone jammers and other means of fraud in the elections. But at the same time, they have been neglecting the important task of preparing the front liners in the precincts for election day,” 'Teacher' Neric Acosta says.

“Teachers are doing something heroic by working for free and fair elections. COMELEC should prepare the teachers and protect them lest the teachers become scapegoats in case anything goes wrong,” ‘Teacher' Neric Acosta stresses.

Noynoy boldly led impeachment vs. GMA

Press Release | January 11, 2010

Liberal Party Senatorial candidate and former three-term Bukidnon Representative ‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta strongly debunks Manny Villar’s malicious allegation that Senator Noynoy Aquino was not at the forefront of the two impeachment complaints against President Arroyo.

“Both Noynoy and I endorsed the impeachment,” says Acosta of the 7th impeachment complaint in 2006, which was the only complaint that was considered by the Committee on Justice and taken up in plenary session.  Acosta and Aquino were both Congressmen at that time.

“In fact, both of us paid a high price for it. Noynoy lost his Deputy Speakership while I lost my chairmanship of the Ecology committee. We both had politically-motivated cases filed against us and lost three years worth of ‘pork barrel’ funds for our districts from 2004 to 2007.”

Acosta adds that “this stands in stark contrast to GMA’s district in Pampanga, which received over at least PhP 459 million in a year’s time.”

‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta stresses that Villar’s attacks against Aquino have already become blatant lies.  “He needs to get his facts straightened out,” says Acosta. “We are certain that if the Filipino people do their research, they’ll see that the attacks that Villar is throwing out are far from the truth.”

Reaction of 'Teacher' Neric Acosta on Presidential Forum

Press Release | January 10, 2010

Liberal Party Senatorial candidate Teacher Neric Acosta lauds LP standard bearer Sen. Noynoy Aquino for his strong performance at Saturday's presidential forum but points out that there was a deliberate attempt from Aquino's opponents to target and taunt him primarily because of his stellar lead in recent surveys and the fact that Aquino's campaign has been a well-received, people-driven initiative.

Aquino's platform centers on transformative leadership and is a social contract with the Filipino people.  It also addresses important national issues, including but not limited to, good governance, job creation and access to education and health care services.

"Aquino has clearly proven that he is a formidable candidate not only because of his growing number of supporters but also because of his strong track record and performance in both Senate and as a Congressman," according to Acosta. Moreover, Acosta is confident that "Aquino remains the most trusted by the Filipino people for his proven exemplary embodiment of good governance and not being identified as a corrupt 'traditional politician'."

'Teacher' Neric Acosta asserts that Aquino's opponents should shift their strategies away from malicious targeted attacks against Aquino--both personally and on his competence--as majority of the Filipino people agree that he is most deserving of being President and will consistently defend him, his credibility and his abilities.
