LP Senatorial bet Teacher Neric Acosta dares fellow candidates: Bare It All

“Bare it all”, Liberal Party Senatorial bet ‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta challenges his fellow candidates to be transparent when it comes to the messages of their political advertisements and be sensible in their campaign spending.

He joins other LP Senatorial candidates in committing to amend election laws if they make it to the upper chamber in order to effectively regulate campaign spending.

Villar’s ads et al

Acosta, a staunch critic of Villar and his exorbitant ad spending, stresses that the public must be vigilant on the issue of election-related spending. High-spending candidates like Villar, whose ads air almost simultaneously on TV and radio, are highly likely to be the same culprits in graft and corruption.

Ang perang winawaldas sa kampanyang eto ay pilit na babawiin sa kahit anong paraan. Isang kadahilanan uptang tayong lahat ay maging mapanuri,” Acosta says.

“Campaigning for a national election is no joke. One must spend about hundreds of millions just to be known in every baranggay or poblacion in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao,”   Acosta explains. “Television is a powerful medium. Like the radio, it is becoming a ubiquitous device for transformation of information. Everything is thrown to you and people absorb information instantly. It works like a magic bullet where it penetrates the consciousness of the viewing public through repeated exposure and catchy tactics”, Acosta expounded.

Manny’s Mini-me

Party-list group Akap Bata’s political ad uses Villar’s infamous “Dagat ng Basara” song and theme. Acosta is convinced that this is one of Villar’s many schemes in his attempt to manipulate and deceive the Filipino people.

“It is appalling that Villar is using a group that’s supposed to protect children for his own political gain, instead. He packages himself as pro-poor but takes advantage of them for his own selfish interests. It no longer surprises me that Villar uses special interest party-list groups as a disguise to propel him to presidency. It is insulting to the Filipino people that Villar repeatedly undermines the discernment and intelligence of the voting public,” ‘Teacher’ Neric Acosta emphasizes.

Mindanaoan Senatorial Candidate summons action for human rights issues

“This seems to be a perennial problem in this administration. The great number of extra judicial killings, including primitive conditions where prisoners are being subjected to, occurring disappearances, delayed trials, and arbitrary or warrantless arrests and detentions are practices that this administration carry out and tolerate. Nakakapangilabot at sadyang nakakawala ng tiwala sa ating gobyerno kung kaya pa ba tayong protektahan sa ating araw-araw na pamumuhay”, Mindanaon LP senatorial candidate Teacher Neric Acosta said with utmost disbelief.

The Backhoe Effect

“Katulad ng mga bangkay na pilit na bibinaon ng mga may sala sa ‘Maguindanao Massacre’, mukhang pilit na ginagamitan ng kasalukuyang administrasyon ang backhoe kung saan ibinabaon nila sa limot ang mga karumaldumal nilang gawain.

Acosta questions the progress of the case for the 57 people, mostly journalists, who were horrendously killed in Maguindanao November last year.

Foul Smell of Injustice

“Just like any other bad deed that was covered up, lalabas at labas ang masama at masangsang na amoy.  This is so embarrassing for our country that other nations can smell the foul and filthy scent of injustice in our country.”

Acosta reacts on the “2009 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices” released to the US Congress on March 11 where it asserts that extrajudicial killings remained a major problem in the Philippines last year. The report adds that security forces and insurgent groups were both responsible.

Back to basics

Acosta pushes for a back to basics approach with human rights issues. He notes that every individual in the PNP, military, and all the others whose line of work deals with promoting peace and security in this country, should always respect the laws and uphold human rights.

LP Senatorial Candidate: Time to Act Now

“I believe that our public officials should put our country first before their own selfish interests,” Liberal Party Senatorial candidate Teacher Neric Acosta reacts to Mindanao being put under a state of calamity.

Do it once but do it right

“From the very beginning, I have been firm with the government to produce a long-term solution to the power crisis in Mindanao, and all they did was to declare a state of calamity in Mindanao”. An irony of such pronouncements, would allow the local government to indiscreetly use public funds to their advantage.  Acosta expresses fears that the government’s response to the power crisis in Mindanao, which has gravely affected his constituents, may not be enough to solve the power crisis. Instead, Acosta challenges the government to be transparent with its disbursement of funds, and such funds should not be utilized for the interest of any public officials running for office.

Hit the nail squarely on the head

“Nangangamba ako kung ang pagresolba ng problema ay madaliang gagawin. Alam naman nating na pakitang tao lamang eto ng mga taong ganid sa kapangyarihan. Everything is for show only. Dahil sa ganitong tiwaling pamamalakad, nagdurusa ang ating mga kababayan.” Acosta exhorts local authorities to resolve the problem by coming up with concrete solutions that can immediately and effectively solve the power crisis.

“Huwag po nating isakripisyo ang kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan sa Mindanao para lamang sa pansariling interes,” Acosta ends by appealing to the government to set aside personal ambitions, in order to render service to his fellow Filipinos, like a true statesman would.
